Mystery of CONCH

CONCH or SHANKH shell is a beautiful creation of GOD and got many importance in the various cultures across the world --- Hinduism, Greek , Budhism and many more. Have you tried holding the conch close to your ears....?!!! You will be able to hear the sound of the ocean !!! It is beleived that this is due to the natural vibration or cosmic energy of the earth that gets magnified on entering the conch shell. These unique whorls are directed clockwise in perfect synchronization with universal harmony. That is why a conch shell is blown during sacred rites of Hindus to get rid of negative energy. The vibrations from these conch shells is believed to dispel evil forces from the earth and also clear environmental pollution including healing the hole in the ozone layer which causes global warming... AMAZING isn't it!

In Greek mythology, Triton, son of Poseidon, is a god of the sea and is believed to blow into a conch shell to control the waves of the sea. Budhists also use conch shells for their rituals. In Hawaii, a special ceremonial conch is used to announce the opening of the state legislature.

Another EXCITING AND SURPRISING MATHEMATICAL FACT about the conch is that the spirals are in the ratio of 1.618 commonly referred to as both the Golden Mean and the Divine Proportion. This number is represented by the Greek letter Phi ( = 1.618033988749895... ) and it is based on the Fibonacci sequence of numbers. This ratio mysteriously appears over and over again in nature - Human body proportion, DNA structure, Solar system etc!!!

Mohiniattam Mudra

Mohiniattam is the traditional form of dance of Kerala, which is the southern most state in India, exclusively performed by women. The dance form of Mohiniattam was nurtured in the region of Kerala in southwestern India. The name Mohiniattam literally means 'Dance of the Enchantress,' and it does have a mesmerizing quality. The white and gold costume, arresting hairstyle and the highly graceful movements in medium tempo, contribute to this aesthetic effect.
Compared most other dance forms, Mohiniyattam gives more importance to gestural and facial acting. The Mudras (hand gestures) are almost always same as those employed in Kathakali. The artists try to enact the lyrics almost in its entirety, like in Kathakali.
I tried to depict a Mudra of Mohiniattam on canvas....
